This week on American Idol, the singers had to pick a Mowtown song to perform. Well, a strong week for some but not so much for others! Top dogs of the night in our opinion were Adam Lambert (of course!) and Allison Irehata. Allison tore it up on ‘Papa Was a Rollin Stone’ and Adam really crooned on ‘Tracks of My Tears’. What would be fun for you to do is find a recording of the original singer online and listen to them and then listen to the idol contestant sing it and compare. Some of these songs are 40-50 years old! Did they change it up a little or a whole lot? Sometimes it’s a great idea to change up popular songs and sometimes it is better to sing them just like they were originally sung. Mowtown music is such a great style!
