Well, it’s coming…after 3 years it’s homecoming time again! Thanks to our 2nd-5th grades for working so hard on their nice homecoming projects to welcome our exes back to WO! It will be a great time for our school and community as we celebrate past, present, and future Roughneck pride! Oh, by the way…the kindergartener in the pic is me at homecoming in the 80’s! 🙂

Football Season=Marching Season! I love that thought!

twirlHey students! You may wonder what my title means…’football season equals marching season’. It means where there is a football game…there is a band! Did you go to the pep rally and/or game last weekend? How many times did you hear the band play? Did you hear the drummers play along to help the cheering? Did you clap with the fight song or sing along to our school song? Imagine for a minute if the band didn’t play at the pep rallies or games. Doesn’t it just ‘feel’ like something’s missing? Music can really help to celebrate, pump you up, and honor your school. This week, watch and listen to our awesome band at the pep rally or football game. Count how many times they play and when they play. (fight song, National Anthem, pump up songs when we make a good play, half time show, school song, etc.) If you see Mr. Steele or one of the band students, make sure to tell them thank you for playing and what a great job they’re doing! They help make our school spirit what it is through music! 🙂
(The picture is one of me and my sister in band! I think that was 1993.)

Summer Thoughts…

Hello White Oak!  What’s going on with you this summer?  Well, let’s see…I’ve been to California-Disneyland and been to see a big blues guy in Dallas so far!  I’ve also done one musical at ArtsView Children’s Theatre and am currently working the tech team (backstage stuff) for our ‘You Design It’ show which goes on this weekend!  It’s been a lot of fun.  I’m looking forward to being off a little in July and then I will direct ‘Aristocats-Kids’ for ArtsView in late July/early August.  Oh…and somewhere in there I’m going to a 3 day music workshop to get new ideas for you this year! 🙂  A great summer but busy for me.  I hope you are all enjoying your summer.  I will see you in the fall!  Mrs. K!  🙂 Here’s a pic of me and Mr. Kimbley on ‘Its A Small World’ ride at Disneyland!

It's a Small World ride. I was in heaven!

4th Grade is going to the symphony!!!

Newsflash…..4th grade will be going to hear the Longview Symphony perform at the LeTourneau Belcher Center this Thursday morning–April 9th!  4th graders from all of East Texas are invited to come and hear a children’s concert given by the symphony.  Don’t forget to wear a White Oak shirt and be thinking of your CHAMPs audience behavior!  It’s going to be a great experience!

April 7th-Idol Thoughts….by AK…

Well, of course I love Adam and tonight he didn’t let me down!  Tonight, he slowed it down and kept the melody simple.  He could’ve done what many contestants are doing and adding too many runs (a lot of crazy notes) but for this song he made the right choice and kept it simple and beautiful.  Matt pulled it together too and really tore it up on parts of his song!  And Allison!  Woah!  She was right on it tonight.  We loved her tonight.  Who will go home?  I think Lil is close.  We will see tomorrow!  Hey…tonight the contestants chose songs to sing from the year of their birth.  What year were you born?  What song would you choose to sing that came out during the year of your birth? Mine was 1977 and I think I would  sing Barracuda  by Heart although I think Allison could sing it better. 🙂
