Idol comments for 3/31/09!!!!!

I’m glad the contestants were able to pick any song from any music style.  Then they can pick what they think they are best at!  Here’s what I thought: Anoop-a little too crazy/weird for me, Megan-needed to really do a song for her to shine on, Danny-good choice-he has a really neat sound, Allison-I love her but this wasn’t her best night, Scott-good song choice, Matt-I liked the keyboard…but not his best tonight…seemed like he was really nervous–wrong song choice, Lil-I don’t know-didn’t really like it, Adam-not my favorite night for him but he is just silly good!!!!, Kris-hasn’t been a favorite of mine but he’s growing on me..very nice tonight..one of the best of the night…cool arrangement.  My prediction of who is going home…Megan, Lil, or Anoop!  We will see tomorrow night! 😉

White Oak Primary Students perform in Longview!

Several students recently were a part of the production ‘Bugz’ at ArtsView Children’s Theatre in Longview.  They worked on the musical for two weeks before show night!  They were able to experience a real theatre experience complete with costumes, face paint, masks, lights, and a great set.  Want to be a part?  Go to artsviewchildrenstheatre.com  and join  us where ‘acting up is always fun’!

Kimbley’s Idol thoughts for Mowtown week…

This week on American Idol, the singers had to pick a Mowtown song to perform. Well, a strong week for some but not so much for others!  Top dogs of the night in our opinion were Adam Lambert (of course!) and Allison Irehata.  Allison tore it up on ‘Papa Was a Rollin Stone’ and Adam really crooned on ‘Tracks of My Tears’.  What would be fun for you to do is find a recording of the original singer online and listen to them and then listen to the idol contestant sing it and compare.  Some of these songs are 40-50 years old! Did they change it up a little or a whole lot?  Sometimes it’s a great idea to change up popular songs and sometimes it is better to sing them just like they were originally sung.  Mowtown music is such a great style!  Find some and listen today!  http://www.nutsie.com/song/Superstition/63747?artist_id=1000894&album_id=1106094  (Stevie Wonder)

White Oak 2nd Grade Musical—Next Week!

We’ve been working so hard on our 2nd grade musical the past month!  The name of the musical is ‘Welcome to the Jungle’.  It tells the story of Aesop’s Fable ‘The Lion and the Mouse’ through drama and song.  Come see all our 2nd graders perform next Thursday evening  (April 2nd) at 6:30 p.m. on the cafeteria stage in the elementary.  2nd graders will take home a reminder note about costumes, times, etc.

Mrs. Kimbley’s top Idol pics!

As you know–Mr. Kimbley and I are big American Idol fans!  We watch and vote every week.  It is neat to watch the performers grow and get better and better as they find out ‘who they are’ as a performer.  Our favorites so far are: Scott McIntyre , Adam Lambert, and Matt Giraud!  Scott is inspiring to me and Matt is just an awesome blues guy!  I will try to give my idol thoughts from time to time.

Matt–the blues guy we like!

Fun with rhythm cups!

This week the Intermediate students worked on 2/4 meter , 4/4 meter, and A/B form in a fun way!  In partner groups, they created movement patterns with plastic cups.  They performed these patterns for the class.  They had to create a pattern in 2/4 meter and 4/4 meter for the A section and B section of various folk songs.  We had a great time!  wo-037
